Default Apple Event in Jan 2011

In the past I think they had an event this month?

I could not find any news about any event being held in Jan 2011.

Interested as I am looking at buying soon, but wasn't sure if I should have waited.

    Any ideas?

The iPad was announced on January 27, 2010, by Steve Jobs at an Apple press conference. It wasn't an annual event though.

I think wickee is probably talking about Macworld - the yearly Mac trade show that Apple used to attend and make announcements at.
As of last year (I think) they are no longer attending. I think one of the reasons was so that they weren’t beholden to a specific timetable for releases

I wouldn't be overly surprised if they announced one soon (Tuesday?)

Seems a little soon with Jobs just announcing sick leave. Before then end of the month would be great, but I'm thinking February is where it is at.

It makes sense for Jobs to announce sick leave before any announcements about products takes place. If it happened in reverse the market would take it far worse I think. I'm expecting an announcement very soon now.

Based on since they left doing Macworld they seem to hold some type of press event around or just before Macworld. If they are to hold one then invites will be out before the end of this week. Maybe 19th at the earliest.

Don't forget that they announced when they left MacWorld that they would still continue to make announcements toward the beginning of the year, but were not happy with having to make employees stress and work over the holiday period, rushing to get things done.

My bet is something before the end of Jan; most of their products run on product cycles, so it makes sense that iPad 2 will be out soon

I think they will announce it around January or February like they did last year but I don't think it be out till late March early April. With us getting it mid June. Just going by what they did last year.

So what's the next annual apple event? Thought the only annual one was WWDC where they announce new gear and then they have random ones also. Just sold my 2009 Mac pro and looking for a new Mac.

I'm going to have to go to the bank and put some cash IN if we don't get an announcement soon.

Can you please explain this line of thought. I don't quite follow.

Steve was ill last year and had pancreatic cancer. People know he's not 100% well, so what does the timing of his medical leave announcement make the market think it worse or better in relation to product announcements
    Cheers

they announced that Jobs was taking sick leave on a public holiday. The US markets were closed. Also this leaves semi-clear air for the quarterly earnings announcement tomorrow.

As in the price craters first thing in the morning, then rockets up when the record earnings announcement is made. To make this certain, they may even announce an apple event in the near future at the earnings call.

it will all make for sensational publicity

I have contacts in the US now so they said they will act as a freight forwarder for me if I need any gear I can't get hold of in Aus, it's soo much cheaper over there.
