    Default New Telstra Data Packs

The current data packs will be replaced with:

The second column is just the name in the CRM system. There is a mismatch between the price and the name. The first column is the price.

This is probably a move to compete with the soon to be released Vodafone Infinite plans. Not that Vodafone's network is doing that well.

I note it says available for new customers.

So I am guessing those already on plans or contracts will be unable to upgrade?

So here's the big question: can those of us who have the 50% off data pack offer swap to the new packs and retain the discount?

Nope these are only for voice services right now.

    Actually:

This will probably vary depending on who you get. There isn't specific in the rules saying this isn't possible but that may change.

IIRC Telstra advised that that 50% data pack offer was only valid until the 21st November, and these new data packs are available from the 22nd November.

    My guess? No.

    Happy to be corrected.

Actually I'm inclined to agree. These new data packs make the 50% offer moot as you end up with more MBs for the same money:

    Old: $39 + $20/2(500MB) = $49

    New: $39 + $10(1GB) = $49.

    Not in every case.

    Old: $39 + $39/2 (3GB) = $58.50
    New: $39 + $29 (3GB) = $68

I'd probably switch to the 2GB plan anyway - I think that's new, isn't it?

In any event, the 50% data pack offer was for the life of the contract; 21/11 was just the deadline to sign up for it. Will see what their Twitter dudes have to say.

    edit: that's a yes.

    Awesome.

    Currently on the $39 + $20 * 50% (500MB) for $49.
    Can now be $39 + $10 * 50% (1GB) for $44.

    Top form Telstra!

The 50% off isn't confirmed for the new data packs. For now I'd assume it doesn't apply.

    Seems like it does!

    Big thumbs up for Telstra!

Looks like I can go from:
    $39 + $20/2 (500MB) = $49
    To:
    $39 + $20/2 (2GB) = $49
    For not even a cent!

And a big thanks to Soliah for posting the new data pack info and helping us out with answers to our questions!

Finally playing catch up to the rest of the market...
This was probably brought about by the break up of wholesale to retail...

    Now they're saying no.

Thanks for the details - the new 3 GB/$29 pack isn't eligible for the 50% offer, so your current discounted 3 GB pack is better value. All of the pack listed at 3G and Next G Browsing Packs - Telstra are eligible for the discount, but not the new $29/3 GB option.
    BOO.

Hmm so do I stay on $20 and get 3 gig or drop to $10 and get 1 gig, still a 50% increase?

    Hmmmmmm.

Am I correct in assuming that this is for plan/post-paid, not pre-paid?
