    does any one know where i can get disk images of all the Pre-system 6 System SW?

    here is what i have managed to find on the net so far:

    * = Got
    - = Need

    OS version / Finder Version
    - .85/1.0
    * .97/1.0
    * 1.1/1.1
    * 2.0/1.2
    * 2.0/2.2
    * 2.1/5.0
    * 3.0/5.1
    - 3.1/5.1
    - 3.1/5.2
    - 3.1.1/5.2
    * 3.2/5.3
    * 3.3/5.5
    * 4.0/5.4
    * 4.1/5.5
    * 4.2/6.0
    * 4.3/6.0

    That's jsut what i can recall off the top of my head @tm, will post up the actual list when i get home (supposed to be studying, but i get side tracked)

    Does anyone know where i can get the ones i am missing?
    thanks. i will still assume that all pre 7.5.3 OSs ('cept 7.1 for some reason) are free.

    Reason being, i just love collecting these old outdated stuff! some of it is a rare find.

    just PM me if u have one of these missing files.

    thanks for the post disko, :thumbsup:
    it does have alot of older software but unfortunately, not the system software i was spcifically after. there is however quite alot of useful stuff there.

    i managed to source what i currently have off 3rd party sites.
    apparently apple don't even want to know about these old OSs

    The following may be informative, but not yield more than information. Apple explicitly warns that use of older system and other software may be dangerous (meaning, if you don't know what you are doing), and seems to have withdrawn permission for many of the former source sites to provide older System Software versions.

    MacKiDo alone makes interesting reading. The following table shows somw of the development. Just the listing took time, so forgive the absence of html coding.

    System#/ Finder#/ System Software#/ File System/ Released/ Size (kB)
    1.0— 1.0— -——— none— 1/84— 216
    1.1— 1.1g— 0.1— none— 5/84— 198
    2.0— 4.1— 0.3/0.5— none— 4/85— 173
    3.0— 5.1— 0.7— MFS— 1/86— 211
    3.1— 5.2— 1.0— MFS— 2/86— 497
    3.2— 5.3— 1.1— MFS— 6/86— 312
    3.3— 5.4— 2.0— HFS— 1/87— 333
    4.0— 5.4— 2.01— HFS— 3/87— 260
    4.1— 5.5— 2.01— HFS— 4/87— 422
    4.2— 6.0— 5.0— HFS— 10/87— 2188
    4.3— 6.0— 5.1— HFS— 11/87— 2197

    As you can see, it was quite a while (1987) before the hierarchical file system arrived. Nowadays System and Finder bear the same number, but not back when ...
