Default Couple of Stupid Questions Sorry

Have my new shiny i7 and loving it especially as it's perfect with no faults so am happy..

Whilst not new to Mac as have I am still learning as so much more to learn and using more on this now than my MacBook Pro, so have a couple of stupid questions sorry -

    • does iChat allow me to connect & chat to Microsoft messenger users?
    • am using Adium but don't really need it as only have mates using messenger, but when the i7 goes to sleep is there any way of keeping Adium connected or does sleep lose the network connection?
    • I also noticed that when in sleep my iPhone stops charging, so I guess that does mean that all connections are lost yes?
    • for right click on my Magic Mouse, can I get it to work on it's own or do I always need to hold the control key?

I know I'll have some more so apologies from me now and thank you..

No, sleep loses it's network connection, sleep means every other connection disconnects, and take a look inside the Mouse preferences in System Prefs for the option to do secondary click.

iChat only connects with other iChat users.
If you use MSN, as horrible as it is, just download the MSN messenger client. I actually prefer it over Adium.

Oh haha - the first "No" in my comment referred to the iChat question.

    Oh well.

You can't video-chat with other MSN users with the MSN client. You need something like Mercury Messenger.

The greater proportion of my regular chat buddies are on MSN a few on Skype so my question is if I get my imac and Mercury Messenger on it will I be able to keep or re-add all my MSN contacts and chat with them as normal? I video a little but nice to still have that option.

You won't need to re-add MSN Messenger contacts as these details are kept by the Microsoft MSN Server.

Activate Mercury Messenger, aMSN or MSN Messenger for Mac, and they'll all reappear just as you left them - even the ones you've blocked / deleted quite possibly.

    Same deal with Skype.
Activate it, key in your Username and Password and you'll see all your contacts again.

    Thanks,
I've used amsn on my Linux machine. Not as fancy as the actual MSN but perfectly usable.

FWIW, Microsoft is working on video support for Messenger (ha).

Messenger for Mac (Beta) coming in March 2010 | Geekword

Not that it would be "a great thing". See Mac/PC video support in Yahoo Messenger, compared to Skype or iChat.
