Default Tom Tom Australia released for $99.99

according to this thread, its indicating it will be reasonably priced, and could see the aus store getting it real soon.

To me that isn't reasonably priced at all. I have a Tomtom and that price reflects what a map upgrade usually costs. Every 3 months tomtom release a new map. There is no "upgrade" price, you need to buy the full thing all over again. If you paid that money, and received free updates to the map for life, then that would be an awesome deal. If not, then they are pretty expensive.

i read the description ( changed the store to nz and clicked link )
it includes seed cameras and speed warnings.

i seriously expect NZ got it first due to time zone and i suspect we will be getting it within a few hrs.

we only speculating on business model tomtom will use on the app store, but their product description ' claims ' 99.9 per cent coverage ' australia with the map they intend to sell.

At 157MB for the app download, I take it that the TomTom app will download the maps as you go?
No mention of the cost of the windscreen mount though - considering the mount for the TomTom Rider is $134.95, I think this will be pretty pricey too...

EDIT: I could be wrong about the maps not being part of the app, other GPS apps are around the 200-280MB download and include maps.

$114 NZ should have translated to $85 AUS. But then I remembered the bloody GST

Hmm, this thread has been kind of confusing so far -

From what I've just seen on the App Store, TomTom Australia is now available, for the price of $99.99 (TomTom NZ is $114.99).

Is this a good price? It seems reasonable compared to Sygic, and certainly cheaper than a TomTom One. Obviously there's no mention of the hardware deal including the windscreen mount though.

Do these GPS apps stay on when you use them? Or does the phone still shut down for battery saving mode?

all map data is on the phone no downloading......

the app does NOT shut down, thus you will need a battery charger to keep it going more than 2-3 hours before you battery is out...
