    Default Quicktime wont play file

    Hi.

So I finally have my MacBook Pro

I am trying to play an .avi file (well at least that is what I think it is - the file name ends in .avi) and Quicktime is not working. It then directs me to this site. Apple - QuickTime - QuickTime Components

Do you know what I can do to get Quicktime to play my file?

The AVI file is probably encoded with a compression codec which Quicktime can't use. Download and install Perian to load up QT with a heap of commonly used codecs.

By using Perian however you enable support for those codecs throughout the OS and anything which relies on Quicktime (such as iTunes and finder's quick-look feature).
