    Default MacBook Pros and AVCHD

I was curious if the earliest MacBook Pro (Core Duo Model) is capable of doing 1080i AVCHD video editing.

The specs of the machine i'm looking at is below:
    2GHz Core Duo
    2GB RAM
    Radeon X1600 128MB GDDR3

Should I be looking for something better and what should I at least get to edit AVCHD videos without it being a nightmare.

Also, would the 2GB in the early MBP be a bottleneck?

Editing HD video it is good to have a lot of RAM, the 2Gb ceiling will be a bit of a pain I believe. I think Final Cut Pro, for example, recommends a minimum of 2Gb of RAM for any HD work. AVCHD is H.264 based, so it is very CPU intensive. The alternative is, of course, to transcode and work in a less CPU intensive format. Probably transcode to ProRes or something similar which the MacBook Pro should handle with ease.

What NLE are you planning to use?

I'll be using Final Cut Express.

I've found a MacBook Pro with these specs for $1000:
    Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz
    3GB RAM
    Radeon X1600 256MB GDDR3

Looking at benchmarks for this machine compared to the Core Duo model, i'm inclined to buy this one now.
