    mini dp to hdmi with the ability to transfer audio would be awesome ! the less cable needed to connect to a tv the better imo

    As far as I can tell there is no audio out using the displyport to HDMI unit.

    So am I right in saying that if I use the mini display port to VGA adapter, that video wouldn't be displayed in HD on my 50" plasma?

    Only if your TV "VGA-in" supports full 1920 x 1080. My Sony only runs 1340x780ish on VGA, have to go HDMI for full HD.

    So I received one of these yesterday and it works pretty well, found a resolution that only cuts off a slight bit of the screen

    Now to audio which is a different kettle of fish. I wish they made a cable with HDMI one end and a mini display port/headphone jack the other, perfect solution!

    Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums and REALLY need some help myself with connecting my Macbook to my TV. I'm hoping posting here helps, but if not I will post a new thread on the topic.

    I have a 2008 Macbook with which I run both the Mac OS and also Windows XP (thanks to bootcamp!). My issue is that I can connect to a TV easily through the Mac side of things, but it just won't work, no matter what I do, through Windows. I'm sure many of you reading this are not suprised......

    The thing is, I did have the computer connected to a friend's TV through Windows not that long ago, using a mini-DVI to VGA adapter. Then one day it just wouldn't work, and I had changed NOTHING on my computer. Fast forward to today and I just tried to connect the Macbook to my television, which is a lot older, using the Apple mini-DVI to RCA video/S-video adaptor. No problems under the Mac OS, but no connection through Windows XP.

    I really badly want to get this working because I have a Windows only game that I'm struggling to play on the little 13-inch screen of the Macbook. I've been through all the settings, checked the connections. The only thing I get is the screen of both the Macbook and the television flickering every 10 seconds or so, as though it's trying to make the connection but can't get the job done.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Only suggestion I have would be to try a mini DVI to HDMI adapter to see if that outputs a signal in windows.

    Looks like the new macs now support audio through the mini Display port

    If you already have an Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter it may not support audio unless its spec'd to the new 1.1a standard for Displayport.
