I gotta disagree here. The event is a town hall event, and if you look at what they've been in the past a MacBook only event makes a lot of sense. Past town hall events include:
-Mac mini upgrade (not even cosmetic), iPod hifi, leather cases
    -iMac and iLife upgrades.
    -iPhone SDK

A MacBook only event is plenty considering the venue.

[QUOTE=benb;659847]No, the rumors are indicating both MBs and MBPs.

Oh, well since it is rumours you are quoting I guess we should all rest easy.

Yeah, I'd happily have the credit card at the ready, but losing 30 cents in the dollar in less than three months makes me feel like we are in for an absolute bloodbath as far as pricing goes - a return to the good old 200% days of the early G4s may not be far off...

In the meantime, isn't it a bit rich that they're still letting people order the existing Macbooks? Obviously theres stock. I wonder how many people will order one without knowing there's an update due in days.

That is not Apples problem. You may find that they won't ship them until the new ones are released.

I was shipped a previous gen Macbook by a reseller on the day that new Macbooks were released last year.

I had a dream last night that the new MacBooks themselves were announced. They looked pretty hot in my dream

This is just plain freaky that this got announced today when I woke up and got to work.

EDIT: yes i'm aware of the sadness of my dreaming about MacBooks. Still, its better than the nightmares I have about my Toshiba Tecra

Considering it's a mac event do you reckon we might hear anything about snow leopard or will we be waiting until macworld for news?

It's not a huge upgrade and isn't supposed to ship until "about a year" after the last WWDC, barring any delays, so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear about it in any detail again until WWDC 2009.

If they are quad-core and take 8Gb of RAM, I might have to upgrade. I hope to God they are. I'll fill more than 4Gb of RAM the way browsers bloat and Aperture fills up RAM when dealing with lots of RAW 10mp photos.
