Default Alpha Build of uTorrent for Mac Released

Reference: uTorrent’s Mac Client Leaked | TorrentFreak

Available for download via The Pirate Bay (link in TorrentFreak article) is a leaked version of uTorrent for Mac. It's only an alpha version, and many features are broken, however it gives us a great idea of what the final product will look like.

I'm installing it now, will post back with some feedback shortly.

Woohoo! Soon I can (hopefully) ditch the bloatware known as Azureus/Vuze...

    Seems to work fine.

A little broken, though - you can definitely tell that it's an Alpha release.

EDIT: heh, it has a "Crash Me" menu option that does exactly that - it crashes.

Also giving out wierd console messages every second or so:
    Code:
    23/09/08 8:28:46 PM uTorrent[5730] **** selection has changed

    This is glorious.

Cannot wait for the fully functioning beta.

Edit: It's Intel only. If they don't change this for the full release they are douchebags.

I noticed that, but as bennyling pointed out, it's a subject worthy of its own thread.

The search tool appears to be broken also, but it's not bad for an alpha release.

Love the use of "fully functioning" and "beta" together

I thought they gave up/canceled the mac version awhile ago?

Eh, this version is still good. But I'll probably stick with uTorrent on VMWare, though.

Bandwidth limiting doesn't seem to work, and Window > Customize Toolbar causes insta-crash. Think I'll be waiting for the beta.

All betas work these days - ever used a Firefox beta?

So basically I jump in at beta stage these days for any program that has a semi-decent developer.

Seriously, if they don't make this Universal I hope they die in a fire - I'm looking at Plex/XBMC too...

Wonderful news - I've been waiting for this app for years on OS X. It does concern me though that this alpha is the same one that has been discussed for years - is development going to continue?

Following the release of uTorrent 1.8 for Windows, the developers have committed to continuing development of the Mac OS X version. So Yes, to answer the question.

I was a little saddened to see it was also only for Intel, sure hope that changes a little further down the line.

It's what's not there that makes what's there what it is.
