Best Speech to Text?

That would be text to speech - I think the OP needs speech to text (via some form of speech recognition).

The best one on a PC is Dragon Dictate, no idea for a Mac but you could check them out they may either have a Mac version or be able to provide a recommendation.

All of them will be dodgy at best, but macos has one built in (system prefs -> speech)

As Forgie said, MacSpeech Dictate is the way to go. It's the same engine as Dragon the the PC.

MacSpeech Dictate is the best one I have tried. It is very accurate . I know of a radiology clinic that uses it for dictating their medical reports and have great success even with complicated medical terms. I believe it is a Dragon Speech derivative.

i use dragon naturally speaking preferred v9.5 with a digital dictaphone and a usb mic thru vmware fusion (and also parallels before)- works perfectly.

macspeech dictate uses the same dragon engine, which is brilliant, but it's still v immature feature-wise compared to DNS. no doubt it'll improve with time.

you can buy cheap copies of DNS on ebay.

I am using Dragon version 10 (preferred) in Vista (bootcamp). It works very well and has more features then macspeech. In particular Dragon enables you to correct your work and the voice engine learns from this. I understand from the macspeech website that this will be added to version 1.2 which will be a free upgrade to existing users. Apparently it is in "private beat testing". I wonder if the speech engine in macspeech is Dragon version 9/9.5 or version 10.
