You can set up an account for your gmail within mail.app - is that what you mean?

Have a look at this guide.

I believe Hotmail is a no, unless you want to spend money. Instructions for Gmail are here (IMAP, which is the better choice for most people) and here (POP3).

Hotmail used to work with Entourage as they were both Microsoft. But not anymore unless you want to upgrade to Windows Live + or something. There might be a hack but I wouldn't hold your breath.

You can now forward hotmail addresses, but it's different depending on your account. My hotmail account will only let me forward to other hotmail addresses, whereas my wife's hotmail account will let her forward to any address! Why? I don't know....

I use fastmail.fm, which lets you poll hotmail to get your messages... though it may not last forever according to their MacTalk Australia as mentioned in the thread linked by macaholic above.

Fastmail uses IMAP, which is easy to integrate into Mail.app.

    enable IMAP in Gmail...

get Gmail to POP the mail off the hotmail account...

start migrating all friends to the gmail address...

setup Mail.app with the Gmail IMAP account...

close the hotmail account when able to...

As you've discovered Mail and gmail can work happily together.

To get my hotmail stuff, I use a small piece of shareware called Mail Forward that will shift my mail from Hotmail to my gmail acount with all headers and attachments intact.
