Paying a deposit with anyone is a waste of time.

At this stage, no reseller knows HOW MANY UNITS they will receive, and will not know until probably the middle of next week.

I'd say so, dolbinau. Give one or two of the stores a call and ask. They were finding out this afternoon (staff meeting with Optus) on their initial supply numbers. I didn't get a chance to ring my contact there this afternoon - but will do on Monday. Still 4 working days to panic in

I'll give them a call tomorrow and check it out. Also, is this deposit refundable?

If it is, there is nothing really to lose - the hope I might have a phone on launch is reassuring!

Yep. It's refundable, if you get the device or not. It's my $50 insurance policy.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot I was in Strathfield thread, not Optus.

I rang my guy at Strathfield this afternoon. He still didn't have numbers or times of opening on the day, though he did give me some comfort that people who had pre-ordered (his words) would be getting one - as that store only had 3 people on their list and they were sure to get more than three, he thought.

He'll ring me if anything changes between now and then. So, still not concrete but firming a little.
