Default Macbook Pro not starting with two sticks of ram?

    Hi all,

I have a first gen dual 1.8 15.4" mac book pro and I've been having problems with the CD drive swallowing my CDs and not giving them back. So over the weekend I pulled out the drive and removed the CD and put it all back together. While I was at it I removed the ram, to work out how to do it because I wanted to get a new stick in the very near future. Anyway I was a little rough with one of the sticks and it had problems starting the computer again, I think I narrowed it down to my 512 stick being damaged from that rough handling. It started fine with my 1gig stick in either port.

SO today I brought a stick of 2 gig to give me 3gig of ram. Problem is it wont start with both sticks in either Ports. Starts with just the 1 gig in either port or the 2gig in just the outer port but not both?

My mate who is great with mac probs reckons that I can only have 2gig in this model is that correct or have I done some thing more serious?

If 2gig is the max am I better off selling the 2gig and getting a new 1 gig, to have evan ram in each port?

    Cheers
    Leigh

Core Duos can only do 2GB.

    Sell the 2GB and have 2x 1GB.

From the first link you provided it says:
512MB (single SODIMM) of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory on 1.83GHz configuration; and 1GB (single SODIMM) on 2.0GHz configuration; two SODIMM slots support up to 2GB
