I have just upgraded from Illustrator 9 and Photoshop 7 to Adobe CS.
When I try to export from Illustrator to Photoshop, the layers end up merged even though I have selected "export layers" and "maximum editability". The layer name I see in Photoshop is "'layer name' + 'layer name" + 'layer name'".
this does not make sense to me, as when exporting from Illustrator 9 I never had this trouble.
Is there some layer linking function in Illustrator CS that I need to disable. Also if I wish to export in RGB mode, the export with layers feature is locked, and the only option I have is to export flattened image.

While searching for some answer to my own probs I found your post - and see that no one's answered.

I don't have any trouble exporting from Illustrator CS to Photoshop. All layers are intact and the text is editable. The AI docs are CMYK of course, and so it goes across to a CMYK Pshop file. If I wanted to make it RGB I'd just convert the file once in Pshop.

Perhaps tho' you mean that you are exporting from Illustrtor 9 to Pshop CS - but why? If that's the case you should open the file in Illustrator CS which will convert update the file automatically, then export should go smoothly. If that's not the case then you must've had a glitch - anywy you've probably worked it out by now (some 2 months later)
