Default when to buy a new macbook...

Yes anytime is a good time. I am hoping to upgrade to one sometime in the next few months.

What I am wondering is whether there will there be an optimal time of purchase e.g: do macbooks go on sale ever, or maybe are they about to come bundled with upgraded software.

Any tips will help decide. If there is no real reason for waiting then I may as well get one real soon.

while i wouldn't necessarily take it as gospel, the Mac Buyer's Guide gives you some idea of when updates to current models could be expected.

based on this, i'd be buying today before the shops close.

They were just recently updated and there's no promotions on the horizon. If you're a student, there's a good discount, but other than that, check out shops like Frequency and Streetwise for the lowest prices.

As to sale, you just missed out @ DSE Powerhouse stores. As they were selling Mac's @ 15% off the RRP prices, and it appears alot of people got some good buys. While others missed out. It had a number of exclusions, namely BTO units. But in anycase, so decent prices on otherwise standard config systems.

    It was today only.
