    Default Ibook G3 800GHz VS Powerbook G4 550 Mhz

What are the differences of Ibook G3 800GHz VS Powerbook G4 550 Mhz

    -Faster?
    -Wireless internet speeds?
-Anything else I need to know

Im thinking off buying 2nd hand from someone here or from www.applebits.net

This one is somewhat of a hard topic. In theory the g4 wins every time for me.

From memory, neither come with wireless cards (although they may be upgraded)

Some research required, perhaps check out:

The iBook came out later. however early G4 powerbooks were dam solid!

Go with the G4 better seems alot faster.
Gigabit Ethernet, Faster Bus, Looks Better, Airport is the Same.
15" Vs 12 or 14 just to name a few.

    id go for the ibook
    an 800mhz g3 will beat a g4 550 in most tasks.
the g3 has a bigger hard drive and a much better video card aswell.
The g3 case will also take more of a beating then the g4 case

If you go for the g4 make sure you check the hinges on it because the are prone to failure and they are not easily replaceable

G4 is supported for future while the G3 isn't.
The G3's case will take more beating but you didn't take into account that the G3's can also still have bad logic boards!

those g4's have had logic board problems over the years aswell.

A g4 450 is no more future proofed then a g3 800. Even if the g4 is supported for longer by new OS's it will still be dead slow with them just like it will be with 10.4. Chances are both will run 10.5 and the g3 will run it better then the g4 thats for sure

I've had g4 powerbooks and g3 ibooks both around those speeds and the g3 is faster no matter what version of OS X you have
