I set up a new Mac Mini for family friends the other day.

Everything went swimmingly but just before I was ready to leave them to it I tried using VLC and found that a green triangle, hypotenuse facing the top left corner, appears across the video.

It appears to be a known issue, but I haven't yet been able to track down a solution. VLC developers suggested fiddling with a bunch of advanced settings related to Prefs->Advanced->CPU Features.

I didn't have time to try all the permutations and I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and managed to find a solution.

The answer to this, for the time being, for anyone else who might be affected before they fix the problem, is just to downgrade to the most recent pre-Universal version, 0.8.4a, available here.

A second or so slower on startup, but no triangles,... green or otherwise.

Thanks to blindlemonjefferson on the VLC forums.
