    Lets say I change my Hard disk icon to something diffrent how do I return it to the default icon. Where are they all hiding?

    Get info (Apple-I), select the icon by clicking on it, then press delete.

    Easy.

    ...hmmm, the question remains. Where are they hiding though?

    ".VolumeIcon.icns" is on a root of a hard drive which has a custom icon. A HD without an icon doesn't have this file.. it is likely just part of the way the OS works.

    As for folders, the icon seems to be stored in a hidden file called "Icon?" (with the question mark - [probably for windows incompatibility ;p).
