Thanks. I'll give it a try.
There are a few menu bar apps to open screen sharing, but I wanted one that showed the correct machine icon for each Mac, as a visual cue... so I wrote one :-)
I had some spare parts left over from another app I'm working on, so if this is useful to you, it's free, just for you :-)
Available here: Downloads
It's code signed but not sandboxed (it just doesn't work as well if it is).
It has a boring name and it has no icon, feel free to suggest something :-)
It looks like this - Belgian beer names below being a couple of my Macs :-)

Hey, this is pretty cool dude! Mind if I share it on the front page on Monday?![]()
Sure go ahead, that's great, thanks.
I'm glad you guys like it :-)
This app broke under Mavericks, sorry...
There's a new version that fixes the problem - it should update automatically if you haven't already installed Mavericks, otherwise the new version is available here: Downloads

mine comes up with duplicates... same machine twice!
@tonyberinson that's strange, I haven't seen that before, does restarting the app fix it?
If you type the following command in the terminal app, do you see more than one machine listed (duplicates) under "Instance Name"?
dns-sd -B _rfb._tcp.
Email the details to the address on the site if you like.
I have emailed you Matt.
For users of this app, I just discovered a crashing issue with Sierra, but version 1.3 now fixes that.
If you've already updated to Sierra you might need to manually download the app from Downloads
