And if you acquire macs that have had a battery recall make sure that your computer is not affected or has had the battery replaced under recall - EG those iBooks that got recalled and the Powerbook 5300 (I think). No matter how new or old the PRAM battery is I remove it- Other wise this can happen.........

Umm looks like that LC has been out in the wilderness for a while before the battery even cause a problem

In other news - what's the worst condition Apple/Mac you've had in your collection?

I had a IIGS that had been assumedly stolen from a school and fished out of a river. There was nothing salvageable left of it, even the plastics were stained (rust/tannins).

However, I do wish I'd kept it. The patina would have made it a nice garden ornament!

I have an LC that was much like the one in the pictures, not quite as far gone (the PSU and a few other bits were salvageable) but I wouldn't think of getting it to boot...

I did get a Centris 650, covered in possum stains and mostly rusted out, but the motherboard just seemed dusty. Brought it back, tidied it up and it powered on. I even got a happy mac before it froze up.

I've got a few LC's for 'parts only' that were left effectively to the elements for years, covered in dust and possum droppings. Nearly all of them booted.

Yeah, true. Just about everything I picked up from Howards was thick in dry dust and possum wee/poo.

As I unloaded the pallets into the carport, I gave everything a preliminary scrub with hot water and soap before even putting it into the shed. The OneScanners were THICK in shit... Literally... But they both got the preliminary wash/wipe then total disassembly and dunk into the laundry trough.

So long as the wee/poo didn't seep too much inside (which some definitely did), they were really diamonds in the rough.

I find a lot of desktop Macs have rust on their internal shielding these days. Don't be too put off, just clean them up as best you can and a light wipe of WD40 will make sure it doesn't get worse - quite common in machines like Q800/Q840 PM8100/PM8500's 7x00's etc.

Oldmacs, I might have a PB 165 for you in future, but need to get the data off it, might be a couple of months until I get the chance to do it. It needs a charger, but is a very nice unit.

Sadly, it appears to have been thrown out - I gave it to my daughter, who left it at her mother's place when she moved out and it's apparently not there anymore. Sorry.
