I wanted to know if there are any freeware programs out there to stop my 14 son who has minor autism from visiting porn site's, it was quite a shock when my wife sprung him looking at some naked woman getting her toe sucked by some guy, I throught it was funny but she didn't and I've been told to do something about it, would like some help, he has a Imac running 9.2.2.

But if i were you - i'd try closer supervision (i know its impossible to watch all the time) as well as checking if your router/modem has a content blocking feature.

ok thank's, I have my son's Imac and my PC connected to a billion5100, but after haveing a look at has machine I discovered he's been useing limewire to download stuff and not visiting porn sites, but I'll put that program on his compuer anyway just to make sure, at least he not looking at naked men, a fathers nightmare.

aah. yeah, i've got a billion5100 - no blocking feature.

You can use a firewall of some sort to block the p2p apps from getting to his computer as well. iirc, some p2p apps have adult authorisation built in so parents can stop their kids downloading porn though it. but i'm not sure which ones.

Basically, I would say you can't really block anything.
If you really block the access to all porn sites, your son might just go to his friend's house.

Let him discover something more interesting rather than porn.

sillydog! good call. I think its bloody funny that he was looking at toe sucking, but I can see why your wife might be a bit pissed off. LMAO

And yeah, you cant really stop it, merely control it. I know that you can block the port over which Limewire works. 6346 I think :o but check. This will then render limewire, or any other P2P network useless, as he will not be able to connect to the network. Check which ports it is, but you can just set your router to block anything on these ports. That is the best way to stop that.

Also, some people set it up so that they are admins on their childrens computer, and then their kids cannot access caches to delete evidence, histories etc etc. But yeah, better monitoring will control it, but kids are naturally curious, so he can always just go to a friends place, or get a dirty mag from a friend etc. etc.

with the billion modem/router, you could even forward the in and out streams of that port to your computer if you want to use p2p on your own machine.

yes that's what I throught and it's not hard core anyway, so I mite just keep an eye on what he's downloading, Seeing how I own a PC I'd like some sugestion's on software for his mac while he's surfing the net becouse I have to put all sort's of stuff on my PC like popup stopers, virus, firewalls and such, and don't know much about this kind of thing for a mac, but I read some were that the apples don't need all this becouse the net's directed mostley toward the PC market.

Another option is to install a VNC server on his computer - that way you can monitor it from afar without him knowing.

I'd also upgrade to OS X if you can, as there is more contempory software support available for it & since it is still supported by apple it is more secure, easier to use etc.

edit: If you've got OS X, then you can take advantage of this guide.

Much the same comment about your son's viewing habits was put to me by a friend who did tech support at a clients house and found porn. He said to the client, be grateful, it is naked women he's looking at.

I think the thing to remember is that it's something guys do, and instead of fighting it, as Sillydog said, show him many other things he can do on a computer, and, without embarassing him, maybe talk to him about his interest in naked women, not to mention your wife, who, as a women, has no ability to understand what guys feel physically.

Personally, if I'd put all that sexual energy into something more constructive (like sport) when I was a teenager, it would have made a big difference to my life.

would his machine be abel to handle 10.1.3 retail pack or 10.2.4 jaguar install cd's becouse both are being sold on ebay at the moment, I put a 10g hdd into his machine and it had OS 10 on it and seemed to go ok but as kid's will do he put a password into it the forgot whot is was so I had to put the 9.1 plus the updates back on.

i think 10.3 would be best for it - much faster on the older systems. But i've never heard of or seen someone using 233MHz to power it.

10.3 runs fantastic on my 450MHz cube.

One SillyDog701 member has the classic Bondi Blue iMac (233MHz), he upgraded to Panther in May after I failed to tell him not to. According to him, Panther is a lot snappier than with Jaguar. He has 256MB of RAM. (reference)

I am speeking as a Windows user here but..

Can you not just restrict it down using something like Group Policies? So the only thing he can access is a web client, and microsoft word, etc? This will stop the P2P client. Or you can block the P2P client port's on the router..
