Default Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) & Snow Leopard ?

I have an external 3Tb Hard drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) with 10.7.1.

Just wondering if 10.6 can also access this external hard drive ?

    There shouldn't be a problem.

A simple test would reveal the dim possibility that there is one, just boot it off a Mac with Snow Leopard on it. Even install SL on it if you have it.

    Default Sorry

Alas, no. 10.6.x won't decrypt the encrypted volume.

At least, not yet. Maybe someone will come up with a way. Or the technique that Apple is using will back port it to 10.6. But there is no guarentee of that.

If you need to have encrypted data on it that both can read, why not use an encrypted disk image?

    Sorry missed the encrypted bit.

I strongly recommend against encrypting anything unless you really really really have to. The only one it will ultimately keep away from your data is yourself.

As Philip said, there are relatively few things you need extra security on, use disk images or 3rd party software for those.
