Rumour has it that Apple will be launching a lower-priced MacBook Air sometime in Q3 2012 in order to compete with Intel's second-generation Ultrabooks. Rumour also has it that the new aggressively-priced MacBook Airs will come in at just US $799, but there are two problems with this theory: that's encroaching into iPad territory, and since when has Apple stooped to compete with other companies on price? ...

There are a few different reasons why anyone would want an iPad 2 now that the new iPad is here with all of its retina-display goodness, but one such reason is the updated 32nm-process SoC which gives better battery life than ever before. Anandtech put the updated iPad 2 with 32nm silicon through its paces and find that yes, regardless of what they tell you, size does matter. At least when it comes to ...

Tim Cook spoke about Microsoft's Windows 8 everywhere plan on the last Apple conference call, saying that he thinks the iPad and the MacBook Air is a better strategy than having the one operating system run everywhere. He likened the Windows8 convergence to that of a toaster and refrigerator, explaining that the tradeoffs were unlikely to impress anyone.

Speaking of which, Steve Wozniak also spoke out recently about ...

Rumour has it that Apple's next iPhone will be 2mm thinner (a 20% improvement over its predecessor) and have a 4-inch screen. The larger screen means a new aspect ratio that will mean a 10mm jump in height. In addition to the larger screen, it's also been rumoured that the new iPhone will also have a metal back.

Speaking of which, the iPhone 5 SIM card tray appears identical to the one in the ...

An update was released for the Mountain Lion developer preview 3 yesterday, bringing the build number to 12A193i from 12A178q. What's kinda cool is the addition of a new toggle in Notification Center, which allows users to set a "Do Not Disturb", meaning notifications and banners won't be shown if this is toggled on.

Just give me a crystal ball, a tent, and some kind of gypsy costume, because call me fortune-teller Benny, Stephen Conroy himself has asked Apple, Adobe and Microsoft about the Australian price-gouging that happens with digital downloads. And to think: just a day after I posted about how Brazil were bring ripped on the price of the new Apple TV. Coincidence? Call it what you want. ...

Before we get into the news today, a short reminder. The One More Thing conference, put on by our own Lauren and Anthony (whom you might have heard on the podcast at one stage or another) is happening in a few short weeks. Ticket sales end in 24 days, so if you haven't bought your ticket to meet the likes of Shaun Inman, Matt Rix, and Justin Williams, here's a tip: use the promo code "mactalk" to get 10% off the price ...

Let's get one thing straight: people play games. Not stating the obvious or anything, but they do. Originally, they played board games, and I for one remember the many games of Monopoly my family had together in the evenings. You might have played some of these board games yourself: games like Jenga, Risk, or even titles like The Settlers of Catan. ...

Adelaide, welcome to your new Apple Store. According to our own forum thread on the issue, this is old news, but for the rest of you: well, let's just say there are people that aren't happy with the storefront design. How else are Apple Stores supposed to look, anyway? ...

The CEO of security company Kaspersky has been quoted as saying that Apple are 10 years behind Microsoft in terms of security on OS X. Eugene Kaspersky goes on to say that there is no big difference between Windows and the Mac, and that it's always been possible to develop Mac malware. 2.7% of all Macs is enough to get worried about, says Kaspersky.
