But a few other things happened in the Apple world, let’s get into them.

    The jury decision
The patent case between Apple and Samsung had a big finish on the weekend with both sides being awarded damages by a Californian jury. The trial was to determine whether a number of Apple patents had been used by Samsung without consent.

    Good morning MacTalkers.

This morning the news focuses on ears, models of the much-rumoured iPhone 6 and Apple’s choice between OS X and iOS.

So, let us start with Apple’s new fixation on the ear.

    Apple hires ear expert

There have been rumours on top of rumours over the past months speculating about Apple’s iWatch and the health-monitoring features it may include. But I don’t think anyone thought these rumours would spread to the ear.

According to reports, Apple has ...

It is strange to be doing this. Writing the news for the day that Benny has put together so successfully for so long. But since he has hung up his keyboard and called it a day, it is my turn to step in – at least for the short-term.

This forum is under going a number of changes, not just Benny finishing up, but in terms of other MacTalk members contributing to the Front Page with news, reviews and opinion pieces. If this is something you would like to be ...

In Apple’s first quarter 2014 Earnings Call yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook played a couple of familiar tunes – being particularly keen to spruik strong sales of the iPhone in China and the advantages of Apple’s new deal with China Mobile, along with the old standard “We’re working on things you can’t see right now” – but he did let slip the first few bars of a slightly new song and many analysts have latched onto it with ...

Logitech’s G550 PowerShell caters to gamers who are still enamoured with the traditional console-style controllers, converting a 4in iPhone 5/5s or iPod touch into a more traditional gaming device.

Do you have a 2011 MacBook Pro by any chance?

Noticed any problems? Forums around the web have started reporting failures of the GPU in this model MacBook Pro, resulting in corruption, crashing or freezing, intermittent video issues and, in the worst case scenario, total failure.

When Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was revealed, an online chorus questioned why Ubisoft didn’t call it “Pirates” instead. At first glance it has nothing to do with the arching Assassin’s Creed narrative, and more to do with the trials and tribulations of swashbuckling, sea shanties and swindling rum. ...

    CONS:Some iOS instability
    RATING: 4/5

In conversation with Pioneer Australia’s Daniele Mariani a few months ago (when writing the review of Pioneer’s App Radio Mode for the July 2013 issue), I mentioned how I’d like to install a double-DIN AV system in my Mazda MX-5 NC but couldn’t because it had an integral Bose audio system.

Mariani, who is the company’s car entertainment product marketing manager, immediately pointed out that I could just replace the central dash fascia with one that could hold the double-DIN (one of the bigger, square head-units rather than a smaller, rectangular ...
