Before diving into the review lets get something out of the way. This game is not free and there is no in game purchase option. It costs a not small by iOS standards $12.99 to buy up front.
Given the saturation of freemium games on the App store, I for one welcome this. I don’t mind rewarding a developer and the team at subset games deserve a reward for this gem of a game.
FTL was started as a kickstarter project and the PC version was multi award winning including IGN Game of the Year 2012.
If you supported it on kickstarter, be sure to check the credits were the names of all the backers are scrolled on by (set a bit of time aside if you have a late in the alphabet surname).
