No doubt you've seen the furore over Apple's mystery chip placed in the headphones of the new iPod Shuffle. It's been a bit confusing, but all you need to read is*<a onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview ('/outgoing/http_gadgets_boingboing_net_2009_03_16_manufacture r_confirm_html');" href="http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2009/03/16/manufacturer-confirm.html" target="_blank">Boing Boing Gadget's analysis of the chip</a>, what it does, why it's in there, Apple's response to their comments and a bunch of links to other sites who go into other details. In short, it doesn't seem like DRM (ie: nothing is encrypted), but it is still quite odd as to it's actual purpose in the headphones.

Even grabs stats for Optus broadband too if you use it.

The iPhone's screen is currently 320x480, but one day it will increase in resolution. I wouldn't recommend it to those who aren't hardcore geeks and like having a warranty, but if you're keen to save a bit of cash and can figure out how to do it from the sparse instructions, good luck to ya!*<a href="http://forums.mactalk.com.au/29/68796-overclocking-intel-gma950-macbook.html" target="_blank">In the same vein, you can overclock the GMA950 video card in your MacBook</a> for a little bit more oomph in exchange for less battery life and more fan noise.
Apple's website is pretty awesome, for such a big website, it's so easy to use. Go look at HP's website for example.
