• Fare thee well, white MacBook. You were a fantastic machine, and like all things Apple, had your time in the spotlight. You were the polycarbonate one, the white peg in the aluminium lineup of current model MacBook Pros, and now, you aren't any of those things any more as Apple has halted the distribution of yourself, even in educational channels.

There's murmurings that Apple will release the much-anticipated iOS 5.1 on March 9th, says Boy Genius Report. IOS 5.1 isn't going to provide world peace or any outlandish things like that, but maybe, just maybe, it might solve a few issues iPhone 4S users have been experiencing with battery life and Siri.

The Verge talks about a secret project to port OS X to the ARM architecture that apparently isn't so secret any more, due to the fact that it already exists. A little later on they also reveal that it wasn't a full-blown project to port the whole OS across, but merely moving a few parts across (perhaps even for something called iOS).

The VooMoteZapper is an iOS accessory that turns your iPad or iPhone into a universal remote for pretty much any infra-red device you own. It seems pretty extensible, allowing you to program single devices as well as perform "macros" to do a few things: turn up the volume, switch the channel, and start the DVD.

The Next Web talks with Tweetbot developer Paul Haddad on Tweetbot for iPad, as well as the state of the App Store and Google's app problem. It's a pretty good insight into how a successful iOS developer sees Android, as well as how the App Store could be improved.

From Daring Fireball comes a video from 1997: it's the Apple keynote from Macworld Expo in 1997, where then-CEO Gil Ameilo talks, as does a much younger Steve Jobs. It's striking to see the difference between Apple then and Apple now.

Apple's iPhone business is bigger than all of Microsoft. Don't even think about the iPad for a second, just the iPhone. And it's not Windows, not just Office, but all of Microsoft. That's, like, huge.

School's back, and that means you might need app recommendations to help you study more effeciently. Mac AppStorm helpfully reviews Mental Case, an app that lets you create digital flashcards.

You've undoubtedly heard of the retina display found on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, but what about the ultimate retina display? Another excellent parody article from Scoopertino.

Whenever I see Gil Ameilo's name, I think of his ship analogy when apple was going broke.
Apple is like a ship and the ship is full of treasure. Unfortunately there is a hole in the ship, and my job is to get everyon to row in the same direction.

Not a fan of the Macbook Airs replacing the white Macbooks for education. It's not so easy or quick to use deploystudio over wifi.

      You were a fantastic machine*

Once you exclude the cracking palm rest, flickering and washed out screen, discoloured trackpad and flimsy construction.

Granted, the unibody plastic MacBook was an improvement, but the plastic iBook/MacBook was a terrible machine with endless problems, always the poorer cousin of the titanium/aluminium pro models. Thank goodness unibody construction brought a new level of refinement and quality that the competition still cant catch up to. Sorry, but I'm certainly not missing the plastic.
