Not five months after they released the Windows version, Amazon have up and posted the Kindle client for Mac - welcome news to Mac-using Kindle owners everywhere, I'm sure.I don't know about you, but I use Google Reader for my RSS fix each and every day. Instead of opening a web-browser, however, I use a standalone app on my Mac called Fluid which takes the Reader webpage, and makes it into a separate app. Apply your own styles, and voilā - instant standalone app for any website. Gizmodo show you how to create your own apps from web apps.
Remember iWork.com - that beta service which allowed you to share documents with your friends, colleagues, and fellow countrymen? Apple recently updated it - it's still in beta (hey, it's got a long way to go before it beats Google's record for longest beta-period for a product, ever), but apart from that, it now works better on your iPhone and iPod Touch, with lots more changes under the hood!
I bet you couldn't name every service/website ever mentioned by his Steveness at any of his keynote presentations. I bet you you've never heard of iCalShare. I bet you that you'll at least find one calendar you're interested in, subscribe to, and then go on to realise that you cannot live without such a service, and are now forever indebted to yours truly for pointing it out to you. You sir, are welcome.
Tim Bray, former Sun employee and current Google "Developer Advocate" for the Android platform, speaks his thoughts with regards to Apple and the iPhone. Undoubdtedly you've already read the review of the Nexus One from an iPhone user's perspective, but now read it from the other side of the fence.
Kerplinkus is a cool app that was also shown off at the Games Developer Conference. Like any good game these days, it's a new-take on the old-classic of block-elimination, with a really awesome style to boot - and yes, it's available on the iPhone right now.
Two reviews for you this morning - both from AppStorm, one for Mac, and one for iPhone. First up we have Spotify for iPhone. Spotify is an online service which allows you to stream music to your iPhone. They offer a Mac app as well, but iPhone.AppStorm take an in-depth look at the mechanics of the iPhone component of the service.
Secondly, Burn is a free and functional CD and DVD writing app for the Mac. "Although keeping things simple on the surface, Burn packs quite a bit of useful power and custom functionality under the hood."
There's some smart cookie out there by the name of Cidori who has created a universal graphics card flashing tool. Don't want to fork out the exorbitant cost for a Mac-version of a beefier graphics card, especially when the PC version is at least 25% cheaper? This is the tool you've been waiting for - compatible with most ATI and Nvidia cards, voiding your warranty has never been so easy! Ever!
Lex Friedman couldn't stand going back to a sitting desk arrangement - after taking heed of all those wives' tales of sitting down at a desk being extremely bad for you, he decided to take a stand against desks that you sit at and cobbled together a quick standing agreement between some household items he had standing around... okay, okay, I'll stop - but before you can't stand these jokes anymore, I urge you to read his article on Macworld about his experiences with a standing desk instead of sitting one. Previous puns not withstanding, of course.
