• Friday Morning News

We may have just done the OS X 10.10.2 and iOS 8.2 but Apple is already working on the next updates and developers received the latest beta’s of OS X 10.10.3 and iOS 8.3 overnight. In addition there are reports around that some members of the Apple Seed program have also received an invite to test out iOS 8.3.

Speaking of developers Apple has moved to back up the privacy issues around HealthKit and ResearchKit with updated app store review guidelines. 9to5Mac report that the new requirements include developers needing to obtain consent from users for health related research apps, explicit authorisation for the downloading of music and video from third party sources and also disclose policies related to ApplePay.

There has not been a great reaction to the move to USB-C on the new MacBook. However there may be a bright side starting to emerge with 9to5Mac being told by sources that Apple will not be blocking third party battery packs and chargers from using the port. According to their sources Apple will allow most third party USB-C accessories.

It was another bad news day for the iPad however with IDC reducing its five year forecast for the overall tablet market and dubbing the iPad the weakest link. In fact IDC sees Apple dropping around 4% market share through to 2019. According to IDC the big winner out of that may well be Microsoft, which it predicts will see its tablet market share grow from the current 5.1% to just over 14%.

Ahead of the Apple Watch launch Apple is clearing the decks in its retail outlets it seems. Re/code report that Apple has stopped selling the Jawbone UP and Nike FuelBand. They discovered the change in stock after trying to acquire the devices around a number of Apple Stores in major American cities.

So that ends a big week in the Apple world. There has been some great discussions in the forums over what we saw early Tuesday morning and I am sure there will be even more once we can get our hands on the new MacBook and Apple Watch in the next month.
