Monday morning Australian time thereís going to be a little sporting event in the US called the Super Bowl. Even if youíre not interested in American Football many will be watching just for the commercials that air during the game. Either way itís a pretty big deal.

Super Bowl XLV sees the Pittsburgh Steelers up against the Green Bay Packers and as with most sporting events there is the official program to compliment the game.

This year though thanks to the wonderful people at VanHeusen (cha-ching) the official Super Bowl XLV game program comes to the iPad in app form.

<!--more-->

Coming in at a pretty hefty 256MB not only do you get the full printed program but also some additional multimedia extras including videos and an interactive 3D model of the Lombardi Trophy...

When launching the app you are greeted with large orchestral fanfare and video of the Lombari Trophy which transitions into the front cover of the program which I thought was rather amusing but I guess fitting for such a grand event.
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.mactalk.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/IMG_0025.png"><img class="size-medium wp-image-12576 aligncenter" src="http://www.mactalk.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/IMG_0025-225x300.png" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></p>
Including everything in the printed program there is a lot of content for any NFL fan with lots of articles and stats for both teams as well as some great reading about the season that was, greatest players and classic comebacks.

Some articles have an embedded video which really compliments an article so that not only are you reading about it you can also watch it too. This is a really nice way of using the iPad. Photos look great and scattered throughout are buttons that let you pull up stats and other useful information.

Navigating the app is pretty simple. Swipe left and right to turn the page and tapping on the display brings up a menu that gives you the option to view the contents in a drop down menu or all pages in a film strip at the bottom. From here you can also jump to multimedia and extras.

There is no landscape view in this app and I found if you were swiping quickly between pages every third page had a 1 second wait for the page to load. Can't really complain about this though as this is a free app where the printed edition of the program costs $20.00

This is a must for anyone watching the Super Bowl and I really hope to see the same initiative taken for local sports such as AFL, NRL and A-League finals.

For the Aus NRL surely you jest.

The words "free" and "New Limited" have never been seen in the same sentence.
