Hi everyone,

Great forum here - I just bought a 2nd hand, but in great condition MBP 13" with AppleCare warranty until Sept 2012 (I checked the serial no. on the apple website to confirm). I am picking it up today from the courier.

Really excited, but the guy has said he doesn't have the receipt for when he bought AppleCare, but has the box for it etc. I read somewhere that it is not needed, and they will just check via the serial no. as well if a problem arises?

I think I got an awesome deal if so, and look forward to switching all to mac, hoping I like it. I have used windows all my life but had the iPhone 3G and loved it, will get the 4 soon.

Anyway if anyone could definitely say if they got warranty acted on without any documents showing proof of purchase, that would be great

Thanks

I had applecare covered service from just a serial number. No problem.
Probably do have a receipt, but never needed to look for it.

Apple Authorised Service Providers, be it an Apple Store or a third party reseller, check the serial number of the computer against Apple's records to determine if the machine is covered under warranty. No receipt required.
