I previously bought a 20" Alu iMac right when Leopard was being dropped in the box, so never used the Tiger installed on it, and did a clean install of Leopard. Recently I got a new 21.5" and just migrated data over. My wife and I noticed it sat on the initial grey screen longer than normal. That one ended up being switched due to another issue, but we found the new one did the same thing. Thinking about it I googled the issue, and it seems a lot of iMacs recently have been shipping without the internal drive selected by default to startup, so its looking over the network as well. I don't think you normally have this issue when installing the O/S yourself as it asks you at one point about it.

So if you notice it taking more than a few seconds to get to the Apple logo, go into settings, then startup, then select the HD. BY default nothing is selected....so its looking at both before deciding on one.
