On my logon screen I have a 'Other' account!

It's not a Guest account and it's not in my account preferences.

When I click on this account it asked for name and password.

How can I rid of this and what is it?

It means you're joined to a Network Server, Active Directory or Open Directory for example. Pressing Other will bring up a username/password field where you can enter the AD or OD user account you want to log on to.

Only way to get rid of this is to remove your computer from the network server. Alternatively set up an automatic login for your account so you never have to see it unless you manually log out.

Or set a password on your root account

If it says "Enable Root User", you have Active/Open Directory configured.
