Hey can anyone recommend me a company to insure my iphone 4 with for a reasonable price? The best I've found so far is:

$157 a year
Excess of $100 - Insured for $1000

Has anyone found anywhere cheaper?

cheers

I put mine on the house contents insurance. About $5 a month with Allianz. Covers you worldwide.

Does it also cover theft and accidental damage?

Mine is also on my house and contents although it's covered under a generic "unspecified portables" policy which covers anything I might have up to $1,000 per item up to $3,000 per claim. Total cost is about $140 a year but it covers anything and everything I might have with me (or the wife with her). Think phone, camera, laptop, iPad etc etc etc

I wanna get insurance for my iPhone too. Can someone recommend some good companies? Should I apply w/ independent company or w/ my mobile provider's program (vodafone3)? What's the difference anyway?

You could try Protecsure - Equipment Insurance Specialists (http://www.protecsure.com.au). Two years equates to a bit over $110 per year based on a $1,000 sum insured and $100 excess.

I am in the insurance industry and have put a number of my clients with these guys for various things (medical equipment etc.). Haven't had any issues on claims with them.

I just wish I had an iphone 4 to think about insuring. Have been lurking on this site finding out when I am a chance to get one.

I just found that site but you have to insure within a month of buying the phone, which means ive got a few days to decide to go ahead with it.

The FAQ mentions liquid damage as a form of accidental damage. To determine they'd have to send it off to an official repairer, the only one being Apple, who have a $250 out-of warranty charge for liquid damage replacement. Your excess would cover a large portion of that.

Tim88, what is the name of the company you found that insures the iphone for $157? I am looking for alternatives to Protecsure to insure the iphone I just bought. I also wanna know, if I buy the iphone to put a prepaid simcard in it, can I get the insurance before buying the simcard? I haven't decided which phone provider I'm gonna use and have seen that when u get insurance you need to submit the phone contract. Is this necessary?

Thanks!

Is it worth paying 25% of the value of the item for insurance? I would say no ... just buy a good case and keep the iPhone in sight at all times.

Accidental damage coverWe receive more claims for accidental damage to iPhones than for theft. So it is important to have this cover to protect you from all types of incident. Typical claims are for drops, liquid spills, and trips. iPhones are easily damaged and expensive to repair, so it can be a good idea to protect yourself against these incidents.
