Hello people

i'm on my sisters laptop trying to update her itunes but we have to update the mac osx software from 10.5.5 to 10.5.8 however, we finished downloading the update but we go to install it, it just sits there loading for installation... we left over night once. But it still won't update!!! it gets about 20% through then it just sits there not doing anything.

They really want the update because they just brought three ipod touches for their girls, but we can;'t install it and can't update itunes until that is installed. i don't know what else to do, because it has already been downloaded through software update. Any help would be much appreciated.

cheers

Kai

Have you tried downloading the 10.5.8 combo updater from the Apple support downloads, rather than using the "software update"?

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866)

Instead of relying on OS X's built-in Software Updater, download the Update directly as a .dmg from the Apple site.

I think - though I may be wrong here, that Mac OS 10.5.5 requires the Mac OS 10.5.6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL752) Update and numerically upwards to 10.5.7 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL826) and finally 10.5.8 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL865).

I download directly as .dmgs as this allows me to store the large updates to an external source (an external drive) so that if my OS requires a reinstallation, I don't have to download all these vast updates again.

Edit: As mmulhern has indicated - use the 10.5.8 combo updater in his direct link - and make sure you save the .dmg for future use.
