Hey all,

I got a new iBook a week ago, 12" 1.33ghz , 60gb hdd upgrade (i love salery sacrifice).

Just wondering if anyone else who has one of these has noticed their hard drive 'clunking' every now and then?

It 'sounds' like the head sweeping along the disk then it goes 'clunk' then its ok.

Haven't noticed and slowdowns or anything when it happens, ran the Apple hardware check and it didnt report anything, and in system profiler the SMART status says its ok.

Is it something to do with the motion sensor?
I'm scared. help!!!

Hi Zillatron, salary sacarafice is great isnt it. I too have a 12" ibook but with a 30gb hdd. The only time mine makes a similar noise is when its going into or coming out of sleep mode. Mind you I dont have the motion sensor option in mine either.

i'm just worried that its gonna die on me. i'd rather get it fixed now!
I ordered online, so would i have to post it back to apple?

Keep it backed up and if it dies, then get ir fixed. They won't be able to say it's not a problem if that happens :D

Keep it backed up

LOL - i back it up weekly! :D

Home dir, iTunes lib and iphoto lib..

everything about my account is in my home directory right? so if it goes bang, i should be able to just resotre the home directory?

able to say it's not a problem if that happens
quite right! if nothing happens i guess its not a problem..

so now its just a case of being confortable with my backups! ;)

anyone have a good plan? :P
