new here so just a quick question how long should I be charging my new toy for friday morning? is there a set time for these things or what?

It should come with some charge, out of the box.

Plug it in and charge it up. Shouldn't take more than 2 hours or so for a complete charge. You can see the indicator as well on-screen whilst charging.

Like Huy said, the battery should be nearly fully charged out of the box. Lithium-Ion batteries don't need conditioning before use, just open the box and have at it.

Well, on that point, cold temperatures will reduce the charge capacity, it's only temporary. However operating it above 35C can permanently damage the battery.
