Batteries that last for 10 years? I'll be the judge of that!

It's a good price for a charger + 6 batteries. Especially if they really do last ten years. Will Apple products even be using AA batteries in a decade?

hold much charge/how long do they last on a charge though? weeks or months? It's a pain in the ass to replace batteries...

Do the batts have an Apple logo on them? (I can't believe I'm being that anal)

ME TOO!!!! I love my Magic Mouse, but boy am I buying a stack of batteries to replace them! (twice, if not triple the time it needs to be replaced compared with my aluminium wireless keyboard)

To me it does seems like a good price for a set of rechargeable + charger IF they are one of those "low self-discharge" ones.

Seeing as they have shipping listed as a few weeks, I don't suppose there would be any chance of them having these in the Apple Store in Sydney on Friday?

Or you could do what sensible people do and invest in a good Maha charger and Powerex or Eneloop batteries ;)

Bought mine. I've been considering getting a charger for a few weeks now, rather than buying the bulk packs of batteries (I know, I know - not very economical). What made me jump in is that I was really surprised at the price. $39 isn't the cheapest charger you'll get, but it's pretty good value considering you get 6 NiMH batteries with it. Shame about the 3-4 week wait, though. Hopefully my current supply (get it?) will last til then.

The charger features a light on top that glows amber when the batteries are being charged and turns green once the charge cycle is completed. The green light automatically turns off six hours after the battery charging has completed.

Are these batteries like the Sanyo Eneloop batteries?

I too wonder on the quality of the batteries and charger, do they match the Sanyo's? Though they seem to be pretty special from what I have read, but surely Apple wouldn't be able to beat the best in AA batteries? Depends on the value, one may be better off getting 3rd party batteries/charger.

They'll be exactly the same low discharge technology as Eneloops, there are about a dozen companies manufacturing the same type of battery.

Considering the optimistic specs Apple are quoting they may be a new higher capacity version 2300 mAh battery rebadged and made by Varta.

For the price I don't think you'll find a comparable quality charger including six batteries.

Cool, they seemed pretty reasonably priced. Can't remember where, but I think I read they were 1900 mAh batteries. Will try find it again...

It says "Apple states the batteries have a minimum capacity of 1900 mAh"

I have purchased several battery chargers over the years and have never had any luck with them. The most recent one I bought was the sanyo (eneloop) for the express purpose of charging my wireless mouse and keyboard. Same result really. Didn't charge to 100% and didn't last that long either. Any reason why the apple ones should be better? Also if you order online, do they come from the states?

Cheers

I don't know why you've had so much trouble with chargers, I haven't. I've currently got a USB eneloop charger that works brilliantly. There's no particular reason to suggest the electronics of the Apple charger are better that others, though like most accessories they'll be covered by the warranty of the Mac they're used with, potentially three years, so Apple could have taken extra care with design.

No they come from China, obviously.

I like my eneloops. They perform as advertised and were quite cheap in Japan. Though I don't use their charger. If anyone is interested, they're on sale atm: Catch Of The Day - One Deal, Everyday, Midday (http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_id=%206432)

Looks like the rechargeable Apple batteries are OEM Eneloops (http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/12/apples-rechargeable-aa-batteries-are-rebranded-sanyo-eneloops/)

Anyone found these in Perth yet? Went to two JB Hi-fi's and an Apple reseller and none of them had them, and reckon they haven't had them in yet...

Yep mine shipped today as well. Should have them first thing tomorrow morning. Good timing I'm working from home tomorrow!

So without buying another charger, how do you purchase extra batteries? We've got 3 Magic Mice and a couple of wireless keyboards, so 6 batteries aint enough...

Mine arrived this afternoon. Popped the first 2 batteries in to charge, and the green light to indicate fully charged came up in less than 2 hours. The booklet says that to charge batteries fully, allow at least 5 hours of charging time. I'm guessing they may have shipped partially charged?

Mate think about security (delete EXIF data)

If you're really concerned about a person's security and not simply gloating publicly; this is the kind of issue you can easily handle via PM and not draw further attention to.
