Being new to mac I am looking for a cheap (read free) program like "irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com/" ('http://www.irfanview.com/"') to rotate my jpg images from my camera without degrading them in any way. This is a great program if you are using a PC.

if you have a newer mac, it may have come with graphic converter - give it a try :)

I'm pretty sure Preview does it.

JPEG has a rotate flag, right? So there's no need to recompress.

Just open the image in Preview, then Apple-L or Apple-R, then save.

Can anyone confirm my audacious claim?

Don't think so, Marc. It should work, but rotating an image, resaving, rotating it back to normal and saving again shows a different MD5 sum to the original file. Flicking back and forth between the two images showed minor differences, so it's doing something to the file.

Google to the rescue: http://sylvana.net/jpegcrop/losslessapps.html

And specifically, http://www.stalkingwolf.net/software/cocoviewx/

The writeup specifically mentions lossless JPEG rotation AND free! Free! FREE!
