They haven't been updated in a long time, so I'm worried that they will get updated soon after I buy one.

I'm looking at either of the 27" models. I don't do anything extremely CPU intensive, but would like something that will last a few years. Is the Core i5 worth the extra $$$?

I'm currently using a first gen G5 tower.

Yes, the iMacs are due for an update soonish. I wouldn't buy one right now.

If you don't do anything CPU or graphics intensive, I would not bother with the i5 model.

I have the 3.06 C2D version and its a fast machine, does everything I want no problem, including running VM's, converting DVDs and gaming.
If you want to spend the extra $$ get the best graphics card, as in the long run its often the graphics card that is the first thing to show its age.
