Before you even THINK about getting any version of OS X, you really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really need to get more RAM. You want at least 160MB, but more (especially 256MB or over) is always better.

I don't think I'd bother spending the $$$ on Tiger for a machine that old...
As LCGuy said, you'll need a lot more RAM, and it will run pretty slow.

Requirements:
Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor
Built-in FireWire
DVD drive for installation
256MB of RAM
3GB of available hard disk space (4GB if youinstall the developer tools)

Yeah, if you want to go to Tiger you'll also need to upgrade your HD, as the early iBooks only came with 3 GB HDs, so you won't have any space for any apps/documents. If you really want OS X, get Jaguar, it'll run fine as long as you have 160MB of RAM, and won't take up as much disk space as Tiger, and will just run much nicer on that machine.
