ICandy (http://www.panic.com/candybar/) does a lot of changes, but I think what you got it's done in some other Utility, can't think what it is right now, sorry ;(

In windows you normally name the image to "folder.jpg"
try that and see if it works on osx (never tired it personally)

With Mac OS X, a dodgy way of doing it is to save the image to your clip board. (This has to be the actual image which you can get by cropping the image in preview)

You can the goto the folder, select it and hit command-i. Then select the folder icon within the get info window and hit command-v.

Not quite what you're looking for, but a dodgy way of changing a folders icon.

Nothing dodgy about doing it like that - it's how the Mac OS has always let you change icon images since about System 7, in the early 90's.

If what you want, is for the picture to be in the shape of a folder icon... that's more complicated... but if you just want the folder, to be a picture... then the command i option is fine.

The way i do it is to place a pic in a folder with nothing in it, call it aaaa.jpeg and then it should use the pic as the folder...
After that u can then place stuff in the folder, just make sure noting comes before aaa in the folder or the pic will change...
