Hoping we have a web designer or two on here that could help me out,

I run a couple of car forums, I want to know what type and size image file I need to create and where I need to store it so that if anyone adds my forum to their home screen they get the icon I've created, as you do when you save mactalk to your home screen

Hope it's ok to post this in the iPad section.

Thanks in advance

Make it 120x120px so it looks good in both the iPad and then iPhone/iPod touch. The default size is actually 72x72px, but there's a widely popular RSS reader* coming to the iPad that will make use of the larger resolution icon. Up to you. Wired and Daring Fireball examples below.

This is the key

<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/whatever-your-icon-is-called.png"/>

Put that in your <head> section. On the forum, you could possible edit the global header file or there might be something in your particular forum software that lets you do it via the admin. Depends on your situation. Upload "whatever-your-icon-is-called.png" to the root directory of your server. If you want to keep your directory structure clean, or let's say the forum is in a subfolder, just put the image wherever you like eg. "/forum/images/whatever-your-icon-is-called.png", just remember to update the <link> tag.
