Hi all again,

This may be normal but I have never heard my Powerbook fans activate! (except once for 2secs during startup) I haven't done any labour entensive work like serious video editing or anything so maybe it isn't hot enough! So vagely, all I'm asking is should they come on during day-to-day activities??

Edit- Forgot to add: Powerbook 15inch 1.67GHz G4, with 1 GB of RAM (if that changes anything)

I suppose it depends on the model and speed.
I've only heard my iBook's fans come on once, but it's an 800MHz and I just used it normally...

Wait until summer to enjoy the lovely hum of your fan or just run a process intensive 3d game.

So is this normal then?

The Powerbook fans only start up when the temperature of the CPU rises about 60 degrees. Download the program Temperature monitor and see if your cpu iis getting hot enough to warrant your fans being on.

my mums ibook seams to be getting really hot lately and the fans not coming on like they used to, temp getting up to the high 60s.

I think the fan might be dead :(

usually it is actually on, but you just cant hear it :P if you wake up at 2am at night where there is no noise you can hear a slight whirrr from the fans :D
