Double Yay!

We found it a most salubrious way to spend an afternoon last time. A great way to unwind and get away from all your other stuff.

See you there.

Well... I'd like to come. Because of distance I have to weigh up other commitments.

I'm curious why the last meetup didn't inspire much interest in attending. If you're reading this thread - can you please offer up your thoughts and opinions?

It may just be a case of time-opportunity overlapping with other commitments. It's definitely less inspiring when only a few turn up but not necessarily a waste of time. Casual social networking has pros and cons - different for everyone. The common link of course is Mactalk so maybe there are some motivational factors that aren't being met.

What other motivational possibilities are there?

As much as I'm hooked on Mac OS (a long term fact) I'm definitely not a Mac evangelist and I'm frustrated by Apple's crappy PR. However I very much appreciate that others have a high level of enthusiasm about Apple technologies and share the variety of ways in which they apply the technology in their daily lives. For me face to face contact provides immediate and rapid context-learning. I pick up very useful info about aspects of the technology, new and old, that leads me to solutions and curiosity that I may not have so easily found.

I also like the casual-social context but because I don't live in Brisbane, logistically building social rapport is a smaller factor - so I guess I would be more motivated by knowing beforehand there was a slightly more focussed context ie. this is what I'm currently working on; exploring; learning; troubleshooting; or I know all about "this" come pick my brains over a beer...

This month my head is full of CSS (not very Apple related) on the other hand I'd like to explore monitor calibration for web and print work.

Anyone lining up at the Apple Store for iPad?

I'll be dropping in to Chermside to get my first look at iPad before the meetup. I'm sure it's neat, but unlike Newton, I won't be jumping on this one. And anyone I might have been able to sell iPad as a computer for people who don't want to learn computers, want a Skype camera, so that's a no go on that front.

I know Apple are selling more iPads than Macs in the US, but does Australia really need a bigger iPod Touch? It's clearly not just fanbois buying them. Most people ask me "It's not a phone is it?", so I'm guessing if it was a phone, ordinary folks would buy one?? :D

How's everybody going with the weather-after all my raves about Bris weather? Still coming? I'll be there, no matter what. I love watching rain as much as sunshine.
