Here's a question:

My brand new wireless (and wired) external keyboards and the new MacBook Pros have the handy Play/Pause, Next, Previous buttons over they F7,F8 and F9 keys.

Is it possible to re-jig or modify my 2 year old MacBook Pro's function keys to hook into this system wide functionality? I have Volume, Brightness, backlight etc etc - but two keys (F11, F12) are not used for anything.

Has anyone attempted this, or at least wondered if it's possible?

I'm confused. What model MBP do you have? Mine is 2 yrs old (model 4.1), and F7, F8, and F9 perform the back, play/pause, and forward functions respectively.

Definitely possible.

I think I used something called ByteController in the past to get it working.

I've got:

Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

I think it may have been the last one before they re did the function key layouts.
