I'm always on the hunt for interesting stuff to read, so if you use Instapaper, grab the RSS feed of your starred items and share :)

The RSS feed of my starred items is available here. (http://www.instapaper.com/starred/rss/207832/aKSaldriFo3hmshJejDNjGAZFk)

You mean you don't have enough things to read already? Between Marco's shared items, Long Reads, Give Me Something To Read, and a couple other users' share items, and all my own crap on top of that, Instapaper means any reading time is limited... :(

That said, my Starred items can be found here (http://www.instapaper.com/starred/rss/198931/41PX7xjjHFbNEAMAYu7R2IQ5YMc).

Edit: um, why are we sharing RSS feeds as opposed to Instapaper usernames? Add my Starred items in-app: my username is bennyling :)

So I can subscribe to the RSS feed and pick what I want to read :)

Am I doing something wrong or do these RSS feeds not work with Google Reader?
When I click on an article I just get a blank page.
Works fine in Safari.

Been meaning to start this thread myself - would be great if you could actually browse another users starred articles via the web app and not just the app.

My username is: zacislost

My RSS feed of shared items can be found here (http://www.instapaper.com/starred/rss/143946/avR3KZlQORIGceGBraDnNC9Lbl0)

There's this amazing magical beautiful device coming out.. called the iPad ;) Should make clocking through your unreads' a bit easier.

My username is andytlr and the RSS feed is here (http://www.instapaper.com/starred/rss/240094/e8Y2uqGgSwsB8UE6OWZVToBZcc).

I'm making an effort to only star real articles that I enjoyed. Not just any old shit.

They aren't working in NetNewsWire either :(

They aren't working in NetNewsWire either :(

I just managed to subscribe to all the feeds in Netnewswire on the Mac. I have it linked to a google account. Haven't tried my iPhone though.

Edit: Just tried it on Netnewswire on the iPhone. Had to close and open the app twice but then it picked up the new feeds fine.

Any solution for this? Shouldn't the instapaper "go" articles (eg: Instapaper (http://www.instapaper.com/go/9141383)) work automatically?

I clicked that link and nothing loads :(

I had to enter my instapaper username and password for the articles to display in the iPhone app. When I use the 'add to instapaper' feature in netnewswire it puts the heading into instapaper but I get an error saying the article isn't available for offline viewing when I am online.

When I subscribe to them in Google Reader I just get blank pages.
When I subscribe to them locally (no sync) the articles display fine.

If that makes sense...

I'm using Socialite, not sure if NetNewsWire gives you this option?

Okay.. I can subscribe to your RSS feeds and see the stories but the instapaper/go links don't work.

Have raised the issue with the dev, hoping for an outcome of public starred items pages.

According to Marco Arment (the guy who does the whole Instapaper thing):

The Instapaper /go URLs are user-specific and don't work for any users except the logged-in user.

The RSS feed was using the direct article URL as the <link> and the /go URL as the <guid> element on each item, with the isPermaLink="false" attribute set. By the spec (RSS 2.0 Specification (RSS 2.0 at Harvard Law) (http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/rss/rss.html#ltguidgtSubelementOfLtitemgt)), this is supposed to tell feed-readers NOT to use the GUID as the item's URL, and it in fact may not even be a URL at all.

Google Reader, surprisingly, violates that part of the RSS spec, so anything backed by Google Reader (like NetNewsWire) will fail. That's why Joey1983 was able to subscribe properly from a local feed in Socialite (which presumably has its own RSS engine that obeys the spec) but not from the Google Reader section.

I've modified the feeds to remove the <guid> element completely and alerted some Google Reader people I know to fix the problem anyway.

Starred feeds should now work properly in Google Reader, although since they heavily cache feeds, it may take a few hours to show up.

End result: it should work now.
