I inserted a DVD into my 12 iBook (with slot loading/6 months old) cd/dvd drive last night and the system hasnít recognised it as being inserted and is not showing on my desktop as an icon and pressing the eject button is not doing anything.

I can hear it spinning around when i reboot the system, but then stops after a few mins of trying.

Has anyone had anything simular happen to their ibook?

Is there a simple way of ejecting the disk or will i need to take it in for repairs?

Thank you

This happened on an my daughters school ibook one day when she brought it home.
We put in a dvd to watch and nothing happened!!
I was not going to lose that dvd to the school so i just slid a blunt kitchen knife in and made sure it was under the dvd and then pressed the eject button. Out came the dvd and the ibook went off to have its drive replaced. Be careful though.

i was in the same situation quite some times ago...

the simplest way to eject this is to start up itunes and use its eject button

Or...

Shutdown/reboot the machine. Soon as you do this hold down the trackpad button until after the apple logo screen shows at boot time. By this time the disk should have ejected.
