Hi there, I think I have a strange question.

I restored from a backup file that was of an iMac of mine, and restored it onto a my new mbp.

I have found a folder in the Macintosh HD called "private" and in this folder there are 4 sub folders called "etc" "tftpboot" "tmp" "var".

The file is showing a size of 4.98

Can I delete this folder? And why is it there?

No. Don't delete it, especially if you don't know what it is.

Someone will confirm, but I think it's unix type stuff. Not to be deleted.

Definitely don't delete them. Unless you want to restore from your backup again. You are correct they are core system files and hence why they aren't usually visible (to stop people accidentally messing with them). Just pretend they aren't there as otherwise changing or deleting them may cause you some difficulties.

Is there a way to make the folder invisible?
